[ Functionality ]
  • ※ It refers to getting useful effects such as adjusting nutrients or making physiological actions for the structure and function of human body, and is divided into 3 categories as follows.

※ Function of reducing risk of developing disease
: It is accepted when the level of scientific evidence of the submitted functional data is high enough to reach scientific consensus.

[ Ingredients having functionality ]
  • ※ It is classified into notified ingredients which are announced in the codes of health functional food and individually recognized ingredients which are reviewed by the head of MFDS.
    1. Ingredients notified in the Codes of Health Functional Foods
      It is a ingredient registered in the Codes of Health Functional Food and can be used by anyone if it meets requirements such as manufacturing standards and functionality.
    2. Ingredients individually recognized by the government
      It is a ingredient not registered in the Codes of Health Functional Food. The business operator must submit data such as safety, functionality, and standards of the ingredient and be approved by the head of MFDS. Only approved companies can use the ingredients. Six years have passed from the date of recognition, and if there are more than 50 reports of item manufacture (only if there is an actual output), it can be changed to notified ingredients.
    3. Unusable ingredients
      They are ingredients listed in annex 5 in the Codes of Health Functional Food and cannot be used the manufacture of health functional foods.
